Gather is the most-loved switcher experience. Vestamere is the most-aligned operating model.
Gather’s reputation is real: when directors leave SRS, FrontRunner, or Directors Assistant, Gather is the most-recommended landing place. We agree. The argument for Vestamere is about strategic alignment: preneed-carrier agnosticism, body tracking as a native v1 capability, and per-case pricing that scales with your revenue.
What Gather gets right
- Migration story. Switcher reviews on Reddit are unusually positive: "I used SRS, Ionic, Passare, and Directors Assistant… Gather is my favorite."
- UX simplicity. Gather optimized for low cognitive overhead. The director doesn’t need a manual.
- Homesteaders preneed partnership. For homes that already use Homesteaders, the integration is tight.
If you operate primarily on Homesteaders preneed and you’re leaving a legacy desktop tool, Gather is a fair call.
Where the alignment differs
1. Preneed carrier strategy
Gather’s tight integration with Homesteaders is a feature for Homesteaders-aligned homes and a constraint for everyone else. Park Lawn’s 2024 going-private deal aligned Homesteaders with a major roll-up acquirer — independents who don’t want to be downstream of consolidator-aligned capital should think carefully about preneed concentration.
Vestamere: Carrier-agnostic. FDLIC, Homesteaders, Forethought, NGL — your call, you can switch. We don’t take preneed referral revenue.
2. Body tracking
Gather supports chain-of-custody documentation as case-record notes. Vestamere ships body tracking as a v1 headline feature with barcode scanning, family-visible audit logs, and skipped-handoff alerts. (See /body-tracking.)
3. Pricing transparency
Gather’s pricing isn’t posted publicly. Sales-call gated. Vestamere’s rate calculator is at /pricing.
4. Compliance automation
Gather doesn’t auto-publish GPL versions to your website or handle state-overlay compliance rules. Vestamere’s GPL engine is a v1 cornerstone. (See /ftc-rewrite-ready.)
Where Gather is currently ahead
- Maturity. Gather has more production years than Vestamere.
- Switcher case studies. Gather’s migration narrative is well-documented. We’re building ours.
- Homesteaders preneed depth. If you want the deepest Homesteaders integration available, Gather wins.
If those matter most, Gather is your tool today. We’ll be ready when your priorities shift.
When to switch from Gather to Vestamere
- You want preneed-carrier flexibility (FDLIC, Forethought, NGL options).
- Body tracking with family-visible audit log matters operationally or for reputation.
- FTC rewrite preparation is a real concern.
- Per-case pricing aligns better with your case volume than Gather’s pricing structure.
If two or more apply, the switch math is worth the conversation.

FAQ
Will Gather data import cleanly? Case records, family contacts, vendor relationships, document attachments: yes. Custom workflows you built in Gather may need rebuilding.
Is Vestamere replacing Gather, or are they competitors? Competitors. Both target the same modern-indie market. The differentiation is on the four axes in Section 2.
Should I switch? Probably not if you’re happy with Gather. The switch math works when the four axes above matter to your operations.
